The study was completed with the support of the Russian Science Foundation project No. 24-18-00416 “The Ruling Elite of the Russian State of the 15th–16th Centuries in the Focus of Commemorative Practices. Traditions of Patrimonial Memory.”

Abstract:

The article discusses the origin of the postscripts with news for 1494–1498, made by three scribes on the blank back of the last sheet of the Balzer List of the Younger Version of the First Sophian Chronicle. M.A. Shibaev’s hypothesis about their connection with the Simonov Monastery does not seem convincing. The record of the first scribe for 1494 about the resignation of Metropolitan Zosima and the death of the appanage prince Boris Vasilyevich Volotsky can be connected with the environment of the cathedral clergy of the Moscow Kremlin. The records of the second and third scribes for 1495 and 1498 represent the failed experience of keeping a family brief chronicle of the Patrikeev princes. These records report the deaths of Ivan Moshok, Mikhail Kolyshka and Ivan Bulgak Patrikeevs. The chronicler’s interruption may be connected with the disgrace of the Patrikeevs in January 1499.
